Biography

How I went from stacking shelves to buying companies - and why I teach others to do the same.

I stacked shelves at the local grocery store (night shift) while I was studying. To keep myself entertained I listened to podcasts and became a “little” obsessive over business. I decided I wanted to figure out how to play the game.

My first ‘real’ job was at the bank. I figured if I wanted to learn about money, I should work where they keep it. What can I say, my logic was flawless.

At 25, I realised my future at the bank would be capped - and it wouldn’t be me doing the capping. So I left the bank and joined as a partner of a growing Mortgage Brokerage - iRefi Mortgages. We grew iRefi to 25 staff, helped thousands of Kiwis either save money on their mortgages, get into homes or grow their portfolios. We even won national awards doing it.

I stumbled across Investment Banking and realised that buying businesses wasn’t just for suits in glass towers. It was a game I could play too… And had actually already started.

With that, I sold my shares in the Mortgage Business and spent time learning from some of the best in Mergers & Acquisitions (fancy words for buying businesses).

I’ve bought companies across finance, construction, event hire, and catering - and helped others do the same along the way.

Along the journey, I’ve learned something important:

Most people underestimate what they can do with the right business and the right mindset. I teach them how to prove themselves wrong.

It’s normal to fear the unknown - but business ownership or growth through acquisition can unlock more freedom, control, and possibility than most people ever imagine.
